Funeral services for Dale Hanson were held Saturday, August 11 at 1 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Robert Hupp officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa. Casket bearers were Richard Hanson, Scott Hanson, Jim Hanson, Dale Sweet, and Charles "Sonny" Thomas. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Dale James Hanson, the son of Gilbert Haaken and Magda A. (Larson) Hanson was born October 7, 1922 in Clermont, Iowa. He passed away Thursday, August 9, 2001 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 2 days. He attended the local school near his home. He was first married to Betty Birtwhistle. He later married Sharon "Sherry" (Opat) Olson. To this union four sons were born. Dale had lived in several areas during his lifetime including Montana, where he worked as a ranch hand, Clermont, Iowa, Postville, Iowa, and Waukon, Iowa. He loved horses and attending auction sales. Dale liked to fish, hunt mushrooms, and ride his motorcycle. Dale served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He served overseas for 24 months in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donald Dean Hanson who died October 16, 1989, and a sister, Mildred Brandt.

Dale is survived by his children: Richard (Penny) Hanson of Clermont, Iowa, James (Shauna) Hanson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and Scott (Cindy) Hanson of Winona, Minnesota; 8 grandchildren: Jesse Hanson, Kristy Burrell, Tim, Tyler, Coty, Justin, Chelsey, and Austin Hanson; 2 sisters, Bernice (Charles "Sonny") Thomas of Postville, Iowa and Doris (Eugene) Malecki of Arlington Heights, Illinois; his special friends, Ruth Shafer of Waukon, Iowa and Linda Birtwhistle of Granger, Minnesota.
