Merle Lange
Merle Lange, 96, Postville, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center, West Union, Iowa. He was born on December 17, 1914, in Postville, Iowa, to Benjamin and Mathilda (Kohrs) Lange. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. He graduated from Postville High School in 1933.
Merle was united in marriage to Mary Kathryn Killerlain on July 17, 1937, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Clermont, Iowa. They were proud parents of two daughters. Merle farmed and was a cattle buyer for the Dubuque Packing Co. Merle and Mary retired in 1978 and spent their winters in Harlingen, Texas and Mesa, Arizona.
Merle was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. He had also been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Postville, Iowa, and the Postville Odd Fellow's Lodge. He enjoyed playing pool and cards at Club 51.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Chris White, Spirit Lake and Carol Lange, Postville, one grandson, Tim White, Mancos, Colorado, one granddaughter, Michelle Arneson, Spirit Lake and three great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Zach Arneson, Spirit Lake, and Elizabeth White, Mancos, Colorado.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lange on December 18, 2008, and one brother, Wilson Lange.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Greg Bahl will be the celebrant.
Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until mass time at the church on Monday.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
