Ruby Erna Halvorson, age 85, of Waterville, Iowa died March 2, 2000 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa, following a lengthy illness. Services were held March 6 at Waterville Lutheran Church with Rev. Kim Thacker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Ruby was born December 30, 1914 in Iowa City, Iowa as Erna Zahrt, the daughter of Kathryn Zahrt. She was adopted through Lutheran Social Services of Iowa by Henry and Annie Jenson of Waterville, Iowa who lovingly raised her from an infant. She was baptized and confirmed at the Waterville Lutheran Church, was active in 4-H, played basketball as a girl and graduated from Waterville High School as valedictorian in 1933.

On October 10, 1936 she married Victory "Vic" Leiran Halvorson in Galena, Illinois. Ruby and Vic farmed with Carl and Selena Busness for a time before striking out on their own at the Jenson home place near Waterville. They were also the Standard Oil distributors for the area. From 1951 until 1984, they served as joint custodians and bus drivers for the Waterville School. In addition Ruby also found time for housekeeping, wallpaper hanging and painting for local residents.*
