Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, Iowa for Victor Stamper, age 81, who died July 20, 1992 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services were officiated by Rev. Lynn Groe with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Military graveside services were conducted by Waukon Veterans. Casket bearers were Richard Cota, Richard McKernan, Charles Kolsrud, Robert Rosendahl, Travis Hagensick, and Brian Cota. Honorary casket bearers were Elmer Kewley, Donald Pothast, Ron Brandt, Jerry Siegriest, Norbert Duffy, Marvin Strike, and Gilbert Felton. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stamper was born October 8, 1911, the son of William Benton and Rachel (Sloan) Stamper in Mallie, Kentucky. He graduated from Hazard High School and Moorehead University in Kentucky. Following service in the army from 1942-45, when he served in Luzon and New Guinea, he taught in Cherry Valley, Guttenberg, Harpers Ferry, and Waterville, Iowa before teaching many years in Waukon, Iowa. Vic also did some coaching during his teaching career. He was an avid gardener and sports fan. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was young.

On April 13, 1941, he married Nora Margaret Grimstad in Clintwood, West Virginia. They were the parents of 4 children. Victor was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waukon, Iowa, the VFW, American Legion, Retired Teachers Association, and Northgate Care Center Review Committee. He also worked as a volunteer at the Allamakee County Old Courthouse Museum for several summers. He was a former Bethel Bible study leader at St. John's Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Kermit Stamper, Thomas Stamper, and William Stamper.

Survivors include his wife, Nora; 2 sons Edward (Karen) Stamper, and Mick (Sue) Stamper, all of Waukon, Iowa; 2 daughters, LaJune (Richard) Cota of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and Rhonda Lee Hagensick of Postville, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; 3 sisters, Glo Moore of Kentucky, Virginia Sutton of Indiana, and Mona Sexton of Ohio.
