A Postville Resident Passes in Wisconsin

Carrie, daughter of Daniel and Marie Lukenbill was born in Avoca, Wis., March 4, 1866, and departed this life at LaCrosse, Wis., Feb. 22, 1928.

At the age of three years she came with her parents to Ossian, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. On July 4, 1896, she united in marriage with Newton Harvey at Decorah and they established their home in Castalia. Two daughters, Lucilla and Blanche, came to gladden their home.

About 20 years ago they removed to Postville, which place was her home at the time of her death, though she was visiting at the home of Lucile (sic) in LaCrosse when stricken by her fatal illness. Her departure was unexpected and almost without warning, even though an attempted operation at St. Francis hospital proved unavailing.

Her husband passed away on Feb. 13, 1921, and her parents, three sisters and a brother had preceded her in death. The following survive to mourn her loss: Two sisters, Mrs. F. Frantzen of Ossian and Mrs. W. E. Durno of Postville; two brothers, H. M. Lukenbill of Zanesville, Ohio and F. E. Lukenbill of Austin, Minn.; two daughters, Lucille, wife of Lloyd Olson of LaCrosse, Wis., and Blanche, wife of Wayne Harvey of Postville; two infant grandchildren in whom she had so much delight; a nephew, Elmer Buchwald of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and two nieces, Mrs. Frank Rosenberger of Rupert, Idaho, and Sylvia Lukenbill of Hammond, Ind.

Her noble Christian spirit was publicly manifested by her well ordered life and her associations. On Dec. 31, 1899, she joined the Castalia U. B. church by letter. She was also a faithful member of the Bethel W. M. A. local, and an active member of the Postville W. C. T. T. Her crowning leaves these organizations poorer in material things, but she deserves rest from her devoted service in them all. May her mantle fall on worthy shoulders.

The remains arrived in Postville last Friday afternoon from LaCrosse accompanied by her daughters and were conveyed to the home, where on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 the funeral services were held, Rev. D. F. Myers, pastor of the Castalia U. B. church conducting the services. Interment in Postville cemetery.

The many beautiful floral offerings testified to the high esteem in which deceased was held by many friends.
