Waukon, Ia., March 3 - Funeral services were held today for Clarence Sanderson, 25, who drowned with seven other persons when their automobile plunged through the ice of the Mississippi river. Sanderson's body was recovered yesterday by Russell Scheckler. It was 150 feet downstream from the point where the car dove over the bank after missing a toll bridge approach. The other seven bodies were found last week when the car was brought out of the water.

~notes: Clarence S. Sanderson was born in 1915 and died February 23, 1941. After the recovery of his body, a funeral was held and he was buried in the Old West Paint Creek Cemetery. He was the son of Carl Sanderson and Barbara (Knudtson) Sanderson. Clarence had 3 sisters but their names are not known.

The obit contributor notes that Clarence had three sisters but that their names weren't known.

The 1920 Fed. Census of Paint Creek Twp. shows his three sisters as Selma Sanderson aged 11, Allia/Alphia (Smudged but looks more like Alphia to me.) Sanderson aged 10, and Clara Sanderson aged 7 2/12. Clarence was aged 4 4/12. The parents were Carl Sanderson, age 38, born Iowa, his parents born Norway, and Barbara Sanderson, aged 53, born Minnesota, both parents born Norway.

The 1930 Fed. Census of Paint Creek Twp. shows Selma as gone from the household, Alphia aged 20 and single, Clara aged 17 and single, Clarence aged 14 and single. Also living in the household was Carl Sanderson's mother Aagot, aged 83 and widowed, born Norway, Parents born Norway.
