Oscar Hanson

Oscar Hanson, 73, former Postville resident, who passed away in Waterloo, Monday, Dec. 8, had been visiting his sisters Mrs. Thomas Bishop and Mrs. Leslie Davis, when stricken with a heart attack.

Oscar T. Hanson was born Sept. 28, 1896 at Hartland, Minn., the son of Andrew and Gunda Erickson Hanson. Raised in Clermont, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the East Clermont Church on Oct. 22, 1911 by the Rev. J. Theodore Bursett.

Mr. Hanson was a veteran of World War I. He also spent three years in the Panama Canal Zone as Chief Airplane Engine Inspector for the U. S. Government during World War II. He opened the first airport at Clermont and was a flying instructor for several years. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Hanson was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois for many years prior to his retirement in 1965. He lived in Davenport for 20 years, then last April moved to Cresco and made his home with his niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Baker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his two sisters named above, a brother Gilbert of Torrance, California and nieces and nephews.

He donated his body to the University of Iowa for medical research.

Memorial service will be announced later to be held at the Dahl-Van Hove Funeral Chapel in Cedar Falls with burial in the Fairview Cemetery.
