Alida Riek
Alida Riek, 91, of Waukon died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be at Old West Paint Creek Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Alida Geneva Riek was born November 4, 1919 in Makee Township of Allamakee County to Hafter and Emelia (Engen) Aure. She was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian language at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, and attended the Fan School in Makee Township. December 11, 1940 she married George J. Riek in Decorah. After they were married, they farmed together in Center Township until 1960. They lived in Lansing for several years before settling in Waukon. August 21, 2008 she moved into the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.
With her faith being very important to her, she was a life-long member of the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, and taught Sunday school there for many years. Alida was a nurse’s aide at the Good Samaritan Center for nine years. Her grandchildren will always remember her baking, the lunches in the field, playing games with them that they made up, her independent spirit, reading Bible verses and devotions to them. She also enjoyed Suzzee, a Boston Terrier.
Survivors include a son, Raymond Riek, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Riek, both of Waukon; four grandchildren, Lisa Christianson, Kim (Graham) Cole, Kristie (Mike) Kaeser and Brian (Angie) Riek; eight great-grandchildren, Cody (Annie Funk) Runice, Kiersten Christianson, Brandon and Tyler Cole, Mackenzie and Marina Kaeser, and Jackson and Jameson Riek; two great-great-granchildren, Mercadees Dahlstrom and Addysen Runice; and two sisters, Helen Evanson and Lillian Larson, both of Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, in 2004; and two sisters, Mildred Steffenson and Evelyn Hanson.
Casketbearers are Dave Christianson, Cody Runice, Bill Steffenson, Robert Hanson, Jim Evanson and Curt Larson.The Waukon Standard, March 30, 2011
