Arlene H. Snitker, 91, of Waukon died Monday, February 28, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, March 4 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Arlene Harriet Snitker was born September 22, 1919 in rural Waukon, the daughter of Herbert and Anna (Jacobson) Geving. She was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon and attended rural Waukon country schools.
June 23, 1938 she married Irvin Snitker at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church parsonage in rural Waukon. They farmed together in Jefferson, Paint Creek and Lansing Townships before moving to Waukon in 1954. Arlene worked at the Waukon Greenhouse for 30 years before retiring. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, where she was very active in its ladies organizations. Arlene enjoyed music, fishing, working crossword puzzles, mushroom hunting, taking bus trips, animals, especially cats, and playing cards, especially euchre. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Ronald (Therese) Snitker of Waukon, Donald (Mary Jo) Snitker of Oelwein, Joan (Robert) Ingles of Waterloo, and Sandra (John) Harrington of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Helen (Orin) Ehrie of Decorah. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin, who died in 1995; and a brother, John Geving.
Honorary casketbearers were Kasandra Harrington, Robin Payne, and Anne, Emily, Kristin and Tracie Snitker. Casketbearers were Tim, Jerry and Zach Ingles, Sean Harrington, and Kurt and Chris Snitker.Waukon Standard, March 9, 2011
