Rita (Strub) Garrett, age 83, of Lansing, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Veterans Memorial

Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, April 14 at Immaculate Conception

Catholic Church in Lansing with Fr. Dan Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane,

Lansing. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.

Rita Strub was born in Lansing July 16, 1919, to Frank and Catherine (Ferring) Strub. On

September 7, 1937, she married Roy E. Garrett at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in

Lansing. Together, they owned and operated the Corner Cafe in Lansing for eleven years.

After this, they purchased the Lansing Hotel and operated it for nine years until they

retired in 1973.
Rita is survived by four children, Francis (Celia) Garrett of Lansing, Lois "Sis" (Roger)

Fox of Fairbank, Iowa, Thomas (Karla) Garrett of Lansing, and Ronald Garrett of Lansing;

nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was

preceded in death by her husband Roy on August 7, 1978; a grandson, Douglas Fox, in 1982;

and all thirteen of her siblings, Joseph, Theresa, Florence, Frank, Lillian, Catherine,

Cornelius, Agnes, Clarence, Rapheal, Mildred, Vincent, and Mark. Casketbearers were David

Fox, Scott Garrett, Daniel Fox, Steven Garrett, Matt Garrett, and Douglas Fox (present in

spirit). Honorary casketbearers are Marsha Kurth, Selina Kurth, Stephanie Hill, Jesie

Melde, Gail Meyer, and Rebecca Rachuy.
