Funeral services were held May 5 for Helen M. Gavin, age 82, who died May 2, 1988 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. The 11 a.m. services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Don Collins officiating. Burial was in Hanover Cemetery with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Mark Dougherty, Peter Collins, Tom Tierney, Larry Gavin, Todd Gavin, and Richard Hermanson.

Helen was born October 4, 1905 in Muscoda, Wisconsin to Otto and Julia (Aide) Steinhart. She married Francis Gavin at St. Mary's Hanover Church in Allamakee County, Iowa. She had previously worked as a secretary. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Francis, a son William Gavin, and a brother Oswald Steinhart.

Surviving are a son Joseph Gavin of Waukon, Iowa, 3 daughters, Mrs. Tom (Dorothy) Collins of Marion, Iowa, Mrs. Joe Dougherty of Elkader, Iowa, and Mrs. Hubert Hermanson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 28 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
