Funeral services for former Waukon resident Walter W. Snitker of Abilene, Kansas were held Tuesday, December 8 at New Basal Church of Christ, rural Abilene. The Rev. Robert Murphy performed the 10:30 a.m. services with burial in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home of Abilene, Kansas was in charge of arrangements.

Walter died Saturday, December 5, 1987 at Abilene Memorial Hospital at the age of 69. He was born March 22, 1918 in Waukon, Iowa to Elmer and Emma (Bechtel) Snitker. He attended Waukon schools and served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II. On September 18, 1947 he married Alberta Barten at the New Basel parsonage. He was a farmer and a stockman. They lived and farmed all their married life. He was a member of the New Basel Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Snitker and Lawrence E. Snitker.

Surviving are his wife, Alberta; a son Arlo Snitker of Abilene, Kansas; 5 daughters, Mrs. Jim (Teresa) Unruh of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Bill (Karen) Larson of Hope, Kansas, Mrs. Tim (Reta) Lindfors of Salina, Kansas, and Gwen Snitker and Mrs. Mike (Sherie) Crane, both of Wichita, Kansas; 8 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Irvin Snitker of Waukon, Iowa, Merlin Snitker of Postville, Iowa, and Ben Snitker and James Snitker, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 4 sisters, Arlene Deeney of Waukon, Iowa, Marion Wirkler of Monona, Iowa, Gertrude Hangartner of Postville, Iowa, and Shirley Johnson of Decorah, Iowa.
