Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Rita A. Welch, age 83, of Charles City, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 14, 1987 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday, October 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City, Iowa. Father Edward Petty and Father Bernard Grady officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Waukon, Iowa with Hauser Funeral Home of Charles City, Iowa in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Jim Cain, Eugene Dougherty, Mike and Tim Lane, Art Gutknecht, and John Ryan.
Rita was born April 17, 1904 in Dorchester, Iowa to Michael and Margaret (Danaher) Ryan. She attended Dorchester School and graduated from St. Vincent Academy in Dubuque, Iowa. She married Ray Welch. He died in 1974. They moved to Charles City, Iowa in 1962 where she worked for Park Fashions for 17 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Madonna Circle, Rosary society, and Charles City Senior Citizen Club.
In addition to her husband, Ray, she was preceded in death by her brother Emmett Ryan and 3 sisters, Blanche Reburn, Bernice McCormick, and Cleophas Ryan.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James (Colleen) Gebel of Charles City, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Greta Lane of Waterloo, Iowa, Mrs. Ray (Evelyn) Dougherty of Freeport, Illinois, and Mae Petrehn of Clinton, Iowa.
