Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Lois E. Flage, age 81, of Waukon, Iowa died Friday, January 2, 1987 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. Services were held Monday, January 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Zalmona Presbyterian Church, rural Waukon, Iowa with the Rev. James Jacobson officiating. Burial was in Zalmona Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were John, Doug, and Robert Opfer, David Flage, Jr., John Prestemon, and Donald Snitker.
Lois was born June 26, 1905 in Allamakee County, Iowa to Henry and Clara (Helming) Opfer. She attended local rural schools and married Grant Flage February 27, 1930 at the Henry Opfer farm in Allamakee County. She was a lifetime area resident, a homemaker, and a teacher at Ludlow #4 and Ludlow #5 schools. She was a member of Zalmona Presbyterian Church, various church groups including United Presbyterian Women, a 4-H leader, and a volunteer at Veterans Memorial Hospital and the Allamakee County Home.
She was preceded in death by a brother Martin Opfer.
In addition to her husband, Grant, she is survived by a son Virgil Opfer of Waukon, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, John Opfer of Waukon, Doug Opfer of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeanie Potter of Atlanta, Georgia, and Debbie McCabe; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Edward Opfer and Leonard Opfer, both of Waukon, Iowa.
