Services for Joe Bakewell, age 73, were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Tuesday, March 4 at 11 a.m. with Father Don Bakewell officiating. He died Friday, February 28, 1986 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of the services. Casket bearers were Earl Schulte, Jim Ryan, Cletus Rooney, Ralph Welch, Paul Fahey, and Larry Dundee. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren Sheila, David, Colleen, and Dan Howes, Debbie, Steve, and Diane Bakewell, Kathy, Vicki, and Lori Bakewell, Deanna Bakewell, Jill, Ann, Paul and Lee Bakewell.

Joe was born in New Albin, Iowa on November 17, 1912 to William and Theresa (Morgan) Bakewell. He married Luella Schulte on May 17, 1938 in Dorchester, Iowa. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Bakewell, and Ronald Bakewell; 2 brothers, Vincent Bakewell and Lawrence Bakewell, and a sister Mary.

Survivors include his wife, Luella; a daughter, Mrs. William (Jeanette) Howes of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; 4 sons, Ralph Bakewell of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Ken Bakewell of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Bob Bakewell of West Salem, Wisconsin, and Jim Bakewell of Ossian, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Stacia Quillin of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and a brother John Bakewell of Clermont, Iowa.
