Former New Albin, Iowa resident Herbert G. Hayes of Adel, Iowa died at his home Thursday, January 23, 1986. Services were held at the Washington Church of Christ near Minburn, Iowa on Saturday, January 25, 1986 at 10 a.m. and at the Lansing Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 26. The Rev. A. Eugene Lockling officiated. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, Waukon, Iowa. Casket bearers were Robert Pearson, Art Swenson, Roger Honn, Clarence Havelick, Roy Honn, and Milo Timmerman.

Herbert was born November 12, 1907 in New Albin, Iowa to George and Josephine (Straka) Hayes. He married Grace A. Swenson of rural Postville, Iowa on February 25, 1939 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a former Shaklee Coordinator and a public school administrator at Yale, Lone Tree, and Winthrop, Iowa schools. He was a member of the Yale Church of Christ in Yale, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters, Elsie Pohlman, Fern Young, Pearl Thompson, and Ruth Oath.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; 2 sons, Verlyn Hayes of Adel, Iowa and Evern Hayes of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Rhonda Krehlik of Spencer, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; and 1 sister, Mattie Lens of New Albin, Iowa.
