Richard A. Hammel, age 63, of Waukon, Iowa died Saturday, May 14, 1988 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Richard was born March 28, 1925 in New Albin, Iowa to Charles and May (LaTranch) Hammel. He attended St. Patrick's High School. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1943 as an apprentice seaman. On March 4, 1955 he married his wife, Dorothy *maiden name not given* in Key West, Florida. He retired as chief fire control technician May 1, 1976. They had lived in California and Florida before returning to Waukon in 1986.

Surviving are his wife, 4 sisters, Irene Lewey of Waukon, Iowa, Rita German of Lakeville, Minnesota, Mrs. Josephine Ingles of Waterloo, Iowa and Mrs. Mary Bedner of Chicago, Illinois; and 2 brothers, Vernon Hammel of Waukon, Iowa and Robert Hammel of Lakeville, Minnesota.
