Catherine S. Gruber of Lansing, Iowa died Saturday, January 16, 1988 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa at the age of 74. Funeral services were set for Tuesday, January 19 at 1 p.m. at Lansing United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Mattson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa with Martin Funeral Home in Waukon in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Norman Reeves, Bernard Steiber, Steve Kiley, Steve Weymiller, Cletus Mathis, and Phillip Dehli.

Catherine was born May 4, 1913 in Waterville, Iowa to John and Selma (Bergland) Hancock. She graduated from Waterville High School. On September 28, 1952 she married James N. Gruber in Waterville. She was a life-time area resident, a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of the Lansing UMC and church organizations, the local ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens), Farm Bureau Women, Homemakers Neighborhood Club, and TASC (formerly Northeast Iowa Developmental Center). She liked to read and enjoyed outdoor activities.

She was preceded in death by a brother Ervin Hancock.

Surviving are her husband, a son James Gruber of Lansing, Iowa; 2 daughters, Mrs. Dale (Janice) Osterhaus of Harpers Ferry, Iowa and Carrol Gruber of Waukon, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Donald (Hazel Mae) Stirn of Bettendorf, Iowa and Mrs. Mildred (Gertrude) Solem of Spring Grove, Minnesota.
