Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services were held Saturday, April 30 for Dorothy Veronica Hammel, age 65, of Waukon, Iowa, who died Wednesday, April 27, 1988 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Father Ed Lechtenberg and Father Larry Duenas conducted the 10:30 a.m. services held at St.Patrick's church. Burial was in Mt.Olivet Cemetery with Hanson's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were David and Dick Lewey, Roger Thomas, Bruce German, and David and Lawrence Mitchell.
Dorothy was born February 8, 1923 in Pulaski, Indiana to Antoni and Gertrude (Rowe) Buwa. She moved to Allamakee County in 1946 and married Vernon Charles Hammel on August 16, 1946 at St. Mary's Church, Lycurgus. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and had worked several years at Lansing Company, Lansing, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Charles, Frank, and John Buwa, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Gundeck.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Ward of Waukon, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Jacob Alan and Jodi Ann; 4 sisters, Mrs. Anna DeGraff, Mrs. Theresa Corr, Mrs. Clara Summers, and Mrs. Martha Kosinki, all from the South Bend, Indiana area.
