Catherine "Kate" Weighner, age 65, of rural Waukon, Iowa died Wednesday, May 25, 1988 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday, May 30 at St.Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Ed Lechtenberg officiating at the 11 a.m. services. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Kate was born March 2, 1923 in Waukon to James and Ida Rose (Stafford) Collins. She graduated from St.Patrick's High School, Waukon Junior College and Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas. On August 30, 1952 she married Phillip Weighner at St.Patrick's Church in Waukon. The lived in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin from 1952 to 1957 when they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. They returned to Waukon in 1958.

Kate taught English, Spanish, and history in Lansing and Waterville, Iowa. She was a substitute teacher at St.Pat's and Waukon High School. For 30 years she was a sales representative for World Book/Childcraft, and was an employee of Impro Products, Inc. She endowed a scholarship for a Waukon student to study English or history in college. She was a member of St.Patrick's Church, St.Vincent dePaul Society, Iowans for Life, CCD program and the board of education at St.Pat's, St.Therese Study Club, Birthright and VFW Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death were 2 brothers, Tom Collins and Patrick Collins, and a sister Alice.

Surviving are her husband, Phillip; 7 sons, Phillip and wife Cathy of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tom and wife Angie of Dorchester, Iowa, Paul and Jim, both of Lansing, Iowa, Bob of Dubuque, Iowa, Mark and wife, Laurel, and Steve, all of Waukon, Iowa; 6 daughters, Mary Michael, Mrs. Bob Schell of Wales, Maine, Laurie, Mrs. Dave Martin, Barbara, Mrs. Rod Smed, Mollie, and Cathy, all of Waukon, Iowa, and Brigid, Mrs. Ron Cota of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, Kevin and Natalie Weighner, Liz and Stephanie Weighner, Melissa Smed, and Valerie, Greta, and Roger Martin; 3 sisters, Sister Mary Redempta Collins of Dubuque, Iowa, Ida Rose Wolf of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and Mary Elsie Collins of Waukon, Iowa; and 2 brothers, Robert A. Collins of Waukon, Iowa and James S. Collins of Minnetonka, Minnesota.
