Clarence Melvin Hoffmann

Clarence M. Hoffmann, 72, died on Sunday, October 28, 2001 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 31 at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial with military rites was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Clarence Melvin Hoffman (sic) was born on May 14, 1929 in LaMotte, IA, the son of John and Anna (Weimerskirch) Hoffmann. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Theresa Catholic Church in LaMotte and attended Centerville Elementary school in rural LaMotte. On October 6, 1951 he married Dorothy A. Mueller in Augusta, GA. He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 as a sergeant during the Korean War. After the service he and Dorothy moved to the Waukon area where he worked at the John Deere Implement. He started farming in 1957. Clarence enjoyed farming and doing the mechanical work on the farm machinery. He also enjoyed dancing. Clarence was a member of the VFW Post 4117.

Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, 4 brothers, Alfred, Walt, Lester and Arnie Hoffmann, 4 sisters, Verdie Hermes, Irene Link, Jean Hessling, and Anna Mae Hoffman (sic). Survivors include a son, Phillip (Vicki) Hoffmann of Waukon, a daughter, Diana (Gary) Gunderson of Postville, 4 grandchildren, Alexis Gunderson, Paige, Tyler, and Corey Hoffmann, 1 brother, Raymond Hoffmann of Waukon, 3 sisters, Sue Small of Bernard, IA, Lucille Klein of Cuba City, WI, Bernice (Alfred) Lampe of Bellevue, IA.

Casket bearers were Nick Hoffman (sic), Kenny Fahey, Roger and Gary Small, Randy Smith, Troy Hansmeier, Steve Christianson, and Dale Kiesau.
