Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Saturday, July 30, 1988, James "Pete" Luster, age 42, of Anamosa, Iowa formerly of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died in a swimming accident in the Mississippi River near Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St.Ann's-St.Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Officiating at the service was the Rev. Herber Tegeler. Burial was in Paint Rock Cemetery. Hanson Funeral Home, Waukon, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Bill, Chris and Dennis Luster, Mike and Tim Rissman, and Ken Luster.
James was born November 27, 1945 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa to John and Loella (Schellsmidt) Luster. He was baptized in St.Ann's-St.Joseph's Church. Pete graduated in 1964 from St.George High School in Lansing, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. On August 10, 1974 he married Virginia Landsgaard in St.Olaf, Iowa. They made their home in Anamosa where he was employed as a sheet metal worker at Cherry Burrell. He was a member of Harpers Ferry Legion Scenic Post #722 and the post conducted the military services at the grave site.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Luster.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; 2 sons, Erik and Bjorn Luster; his mother Loella Luster of Harpers Ferry; 5 brothers, Harland Luster of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Ernest Luster of Lansing, Iowa, Clarence Luster of Cincinnati, Ohio, John Luster of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and Charles Luster of Hiawatha, Iowa; 5 sisters, Mary Kane of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Myrtle Spinner of Davenport, Iowa, Madonna Rouiller of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Helen Rissman of Luana, Iowa, and Charlotte Monroe of Chaseburg, Wisconsin.
