Former resident Martha Elfrida McShane died February 22, 1988 at St.Anthony Health Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the age of 100. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, Iowa with the Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Martha was born March 19, 1887 south of Waukon to Karl and Ida (Schonebeck) Koehring. She attended Waukon High School, Upper Iowa University,Luther College, and Dubuque College. She taught school in Allamakee and Winneshiek counties. On November 6, 1920 she married George D. McShane in Waterloo, Iowa. She had lived in Waukon, Elmhurst, Illinois and Minneapolis. She was a member of Zion UCC where she had served as treasurer and secretary of Sunday School, American Legion auxiliary and WE study club, serving as president of both; VFW auxiliary and Senior Citizen Club.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, Lena O'Brien, Charles Koehring, Pauline Duvel, and Otto Koehring.

Surviving are a daughter, Georgine Knutson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren, Linda Reep, Craig Knutson, Lorelei Beaucuire, Kevan Knutson, Kern Knutson, Lisa Rekuski, K.Clark Knutson, Kent Knutson, and Leann Knutson; 6 great-grandchildren, Todd, Tracy, and Chad Reep, Andrew and Stephanie Rekuski, and Michael Beaucuire.
