Funeral services for Carlton F. Schlitter, age 75 years, were held on Friday, October 30 at 11 a.m. at St.Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Rev. Harold O. Ward was the clergyman. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Mark Schlitter, Randy Schlitter, Kim Walsh, Alan Metz, Jerry Bollman, and Kurt Pierce.

Carlton Friedrick Schlitter was born May 26, 1912 in Linton Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to Albert and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Schlitter. He was baptized December 15, 1912 in the Evangelical faith and confirmed March 25, 1934 at St.Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. He received his education in Figgie school No. 3 in Linton Twp.

On August 23, 1933 Carlton was united in marriage to Mardella Kruse at her parent's home. To this union one daughter and three sons were born. The couple farmed in Linton twp. for 26 years. Carlton also hauled cream. In 1962 the couple moved into Monona. Carlton continued to work until his health failed.

Carlton died at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa where he had been a resident for 21 months on Monday, October 26, 1987.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, Ronald who died March 7, 1987; four brothers, Leslie, Milton, Willis, and Franklin Schlitter; and three sisters, Hazel Timmerman, Mabel Martins, and Helen Marie Schlitter. Franklin and Helen died as infants.

Surviving is his wife, Mardella; sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Anita Schlitter of Monona, Iowa, Duane and Judy Schlitter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Sharon Schlitter of Sullivan, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and James Walsh of Waukon, Iowa; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
