Bernadine "Bonnie" Downs, age 72, died Wednesday, August 9, 1989 at her home in Knoxville, Iowa. Graveside services were held Saturday, August 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery with the Rev. Damon Reese officiating. Bybee and Davis Funeral Home of Knoxville was in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie was born September 6, 1916 in Dickenson, North Dakota to Walter L. and Marie (Henderson) Joy. The family moved to Waukon, Iowa Allamakee County. *The family was in Waukon in 1928 and resided there through the 1940's* On August 22, 1940 Bonnie married Leslie Downs at Charles City, Iowa. They lived in various areas of the United States before moving to Fort Worth, Texas. He died February 4, 1981 in Fort Worth, Texas. She returned to Knoxville, Iowa later that year. She was a member of the Regular Baptist Church in Knoxville, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Surviving are a son Donald of Palm Desert, California, a daughter Mrs. Ray (Anita) Purscell of One Thousand Palms, California; 13 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Marie Chapman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Sarah "Sadie" Troendle, formerly of Waukon, Iowa and now of Knoxville, Iowa.
