Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services were held Thursday, July 13 for Lansing resident Edwin H. Gelo, 79, who died Monday July 10, 1989 at St. Francis Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The 2 p.m. services were held at Lansing United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Mattson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Jim Bieber, Burton Wild, Jim and Gary Gelo, and Charles and Lewis Ebner.
Edwin was born July 7, 1910 in Center Township Allamakee County, Iowa to Herman and Mabel(Ebner)Gelo. He attended Center School #2 in Center Township through the eighth grade. On August 25, 1945 he married Marjorie H. Feuerhelm at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Lansing, Iowa. He farmed on the farm where he was born until 1974 when he retired. He also sold Watkins Products in the county for many years. He was a member of the Lansing Methodist Church. He had lived in the Lansing area all his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cora Ashbacher.
Survivors are his wife, three daughters, Sharon Nelson of New Albany, Indiana, and Joye and Jeanne Gelo, both of Vail, Colorado; three sons, Wayne of rural Lansing, Iowa, Keith of Conifer, Colorado, and Dean of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren, and two sisters, Leona Marti of Waukon, Iowa ad Bernice Bieber of Lansing, Iowa.
