Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Former Waukon resident Wayne Richard Koehring died Friday, April 21, 1989 at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minnesota. He was 73 years of age. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 25 at 3 p.m. at Burnsville Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Bortel officiating. Honorary pallbearer was Joe Hogeland. Casket bearers were David Miller, Grant Popehn, Mike Boegeman, Bob Haugen, John Homan, and Doug Schultz.
Wayne was born February 8, 1916 in Waukon, Iowa to Charles and Olivia (Shafer) Koehring. He attended Waukon Schools. In 1936 he married Margaret Erickson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He served three years in the Army and was an inventor and designer of machinery for Waymar Industries. He was a member of the Viking Chapter of the National Wood Carvers Association and a team member of Minnesota Slicks, a radio controlled helicopter organization.
Surviving are his wife, a son Dick of Burnsville, two grandchildren, a brother Roland of Waukon and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister.
