Obituary Mrs. J. W. Bakewell
Death came as a welcome relief to the long and painful suffering of Mrs. John W. Bakewell Monday, May 28th, her illness extending over a period of several years. Her maiden name was Catherine Phillippi and she was born in Lansing, Iowa, April. 21, 1858, having lived in this city and Lansing township all her life. She was married to John W. Bakewell Oct. 28, 1880, and to this union were born five children, all of whom survive, as follows: Mrs. Anna. Morgan, New Albin. Ia.; Mrs. Mayme Scholtes, Lansing; Sister Mary Cleta, St. Rose Convent, La Crosse; Will of Lansing, and John P. of St. Paul. They mourn the loss of a true Christian mother, whose greatest joy was always in her family and home, and whose good examples and teaching will ever be cherished in their memory. The husband and father preceded her to the grave last year, May 22, 1922. [hand corrected to April]
Her funeral was held last Wednesday from Immaculate Conception church, of which she was ever a devout and faithful member. After a Mass of Requiem, her body was laid to rest in beautiful Gethsemane beside her husband. May her soul rest in peace.
Out of town relatives in attendance, besides the son John, were: Mike, Joe, John and George Phillippi, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. John Hasenberger, St. Paul; Matt Kelly and son Emmet, Dorchester, lowa.
In this connection the family desire us to return their heartfelt thanks to the many neighbors and friends for their acts of sympathy and kindness during the long illness, death and burial of their beloved mother.~newspaper clipping from the FSPA archives
