Wednesday, October 11 funeral services were held for Alice A. Rood of Waukon, Iowa at West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Mark DeGarmeaux and Vicar Mark Wold officiating at the 1:30 p.m. service. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Wesley Rood, Clem Riek or Rieck, Michael Rood, Richard Asleson, Roger Asleson, and Orville Nelson.

Alice died Sunday October 8, 1989 at the age of 84 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, where she had resided for the past four years. She was the daughter of Knute and Hattie (Erickson) Asleson. She was born September 4, 1905 in rural Waterville, Iowa. She was a member of the first graduating class (1923) at Waterville Consolidated High School, and also of Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

On October 21, 1925 she married Paul G. Rood in Decorah. He died January 13, 1979. She was a homemaker, teacher, school nurse at Waterville, worked at Luther College in the Student Union, and also at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Alice was a member of West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church where she participated in various church groups and also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, Kletus W. Rood of Albuquerque, NM, a daughter, Phyllis Cleys of Englewood, CO; a sister, Mrs. Clem (Hazel) Rieck or Riek of Lansing; two brothers, Eilert Asleson of Spring Green, WI and Albert Asleson of Waterville; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were three sisters, Gena Rood, Martha Nelson, and Esther Hermanson.
