Alice J. Armstrong, age 87, of Waukon, died Friday, September 10, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 14 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, rural Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Hanson Funeral Home, Waukon, was in charge of arrangements.
Alice was born September 26, 1915, in Waukon, the daughter of Joseph and Ellen Ryan McAneny. She graduated from Waukon Senior High and then from the Normal Training School for Teachers.
She married Jack Armstrong in Detroit, Mich. Alice resided in Detroit for most of her early adulthood as a homemaker. After becoming a grandmother in 1980, she moved to Springfield, Ore., to help care for Katie and Beckie.
Alice was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon and St. Alice Parish in Springfield, Ore. She was the Womens Club President and also enjoyed swim aerobics, walking, traveling to Ireland, politics, pinochle, volunteering for church, and bowling.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy K. Fischer of Cincinnati, Ohio; two granddaughters, Katie R. Fischer of Houston, Texas, and Beckie R. Fischer of Chicago; a sister, Ann Goepel of Waukon; a niece, Kristine Bruno of Pompano, Fla.; a grandniece, Jaqueline Bruno of Minneapolis, Minn.; and a grandnephew, John Bruno of Milwaukee, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joeseph and Ellen McAneny; her husband, Jack in 1973; and six siblings, Kathryn Herberger, Marie Zadrazil, William McAneny, Edward McAneny, Eileen McAneny, and Virginia Le Mere.Waukon,IA newspaper ~ Sept. 15, 2004
