Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Helene E. Cook were held Tuesday, September 17, 1985 at Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Iowa. Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
Helene Elizabeth Cook, daughter of Benjamin and Gunda (Johnson) Martindale, was born April 2, 1915 at Waterville, Iowa. She died Thursday September 12, 1985 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.
She attended the Waukon School. On September 1, 1934 she was married to A.Burr Cook at the home of Rev. Van Nice in Waukon. To this union two daughters were born. They owned and operated Cook's Shell Station from 1940 until 1973. Her husband, Burr, also had a school bus contract for Postville Community Schools for a number of years.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her husband, Burr, two daughters Karen and her husband Gary Carman, Tulsa, OK; Kaye and her husband, Ronald Olson, Minnetonka, MN; four grandchildren, Janet (Carman) and her husband Dale Voss, Greg Carman and Chad and Teresa Olson; two brothers, Robert Martindale, Postville, and Donald Martindale, Oelwein.
Helene was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church since 1940 and the church's UPW. She also played the piano for Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Easter Star and served as secretary, a member of the Postville Firettes and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Casket Bearers were Noel Cook, Donnie Martindale, Peter Martindale, Ben Martindale, Greg Carman, and Chad Olson.
