DIED—At his home in Postville, Saturday morning, August 25th, 1899, after an illness of several weeks’ duration, FREDERICK W. TANGEMAN, at the age of 42 years.
The subject of the above notice was born in Garnavillo, Clayton county, Oct. 25th, 1856. In 1859 the family moved to Benton, in this state and six years later they settled at Volney in Allamakee Co., where Fred’s boyhood and youth were spent. At the age of 14 he was confirmed in the Lutheran church. January, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Boedecker and to them two children were born—a daughter and son—who with their mother now mourn an irreparable loss. In 1890 Mr. Tangeman joined the M. E. church of which he remained a consistent member up to the end of his life. That year he also moved to Postville, where he became associated in mercantile business with Charles Skelton under the firm name of Skelton & Tangeman, a firm noted throughout the four counties for the uprightness of its dealings. To use the words of another, in writing of Mr. Tangeman: "To the friends who have known deceased from childhood, the truthfulness of character were [sic] ever apparent. In all his intercourse with others he was sincere, earnest and sympathetic, exhibiting in all his affairs a true nobility." For some time Mr. Tangeman has been in failing health, but no serious results were feared until about six weeks ago when symptoms of heart disease became manifest. Postville Independent School District—was one of the leading stewards in the Methodist church, a prominent member of Olive Branch Lodge, K. of P., and a citizen who had the respect of the entire community in the great sorrow that has come to home life.The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church Pastor Barton being assisted in the services by Revs. Emil Bockelman, of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, and S. W. Pollard of the Congregational church.—Postville Review.
