A distressing and painful accident occurred Thursday at 5:30 o'clock at the John Ross farm at the edge of town. The family had just partaken of their evening meal when Mrs. Ross, aged 55 years, went down cellar carrying a lighted lamp with her to get some milk for a customer, and upon ascending the stairs fainted, falling backward to the bottom of the cellar. Mr. Ross upon hearing the crash hurried to the basement only to find his wife's lifeless body on the cement floor in a mass of flames. Mr. Ross in his fright attempted to extinguish the flames with his hands but without avail, only to burn his hands severely. His cries for help were heard by Mrs. Frank Ross, who came to his rescue with a pail of water, with which the flames were extinguished and the unfortune woman was carried upstairs. Dr. E.J. Gable was summoned and upon examination found her to be severly burned about the face and the hair being partly burned off her head. Her left hand is badly burned and also has a very bad bruise on her right shoulder. The poor lady bled severely from a hair pin wound on the back of her head, her back being also injured. She is resting as well as can be expected. Mrs. Ross has the sympathy of all and all hope for a speedy recovery.
