POSTVILLE - Lester Lee Friederich, 77, of Luana, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date with military rites.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, and one hour before services at the church.
He was born on April 2, 1933, in Elgin, to Jacob and Ida (Schneider) Friederich. He attended country schools and graduated from Postville High School in 1952.
Lester was united in marriage to Melba Spoerl on July 12, 1959. Three daughters were born to this union. He was then united in marriage to Bernice Poesch on April 5, 1986, in Postville.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force following high school and served honorably. Following his discharge he farmed for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, playing cards, mowing lawns, being outdoors, and driving the countryside.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Friederich; three daughters, Annette Rurup (Mike Kurtenbach) Clear Lake, Denise Friederich (Tim White) Clermont, April (Terry) Templeton, Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Jessica White, Austin Rurup; four step-children, Donna Poesch, Bettendorf, Elaine (Miron) Walker, Oelwein, Lowell (Sally) Poesch, Brooklyn Park, Minn., Charles (Karma) Poesch, Waverly; nine step-grandchildren; seven siblings, Alma Berg, West Union, Raymond (Murtis) Friederich, Postville, Jacob (Bev) Friederich Jr., Elgin, Fern (Les) Kleppe, Elgin, George (Marion) Friederich, Colo., James (Delores) Friederich, West Union, Robert (Shirley) Friederich, Postville and many nieces and nephews.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Richard Friederich, Dorothy Foels, Erma Kamus and Alton Friederich in infancy.
