Daniel D. Davis

Daniel D. Davis, 61, of Mason City, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1988 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital following a short illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 31 at the First Presbyterian Church, Mason City. Rev. Donald L. Simmons officiated. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

He was born Oct. 31, 1927 in Mason City, son of Hayes B. and Elsie (Scheevel) Davis. He attended school in Mason City and then served 4½ years in the Navy of which 15 months was served during the Korean Conflict. He married Lucille Miller on Jan. 10, 1948 in Portland, Oregon. They lived in Portland until moving to Mason City in 1949. Then from 1960 to 1984 they lived in Postville, IA and then returned to Mason City in 1984. He was employed by Gibbs-Cook for 40 years.

During the time that they lived in Postville he was a Deacon and Trustee for the Postville Presbyterian Church, Scout Leader for the Explorer Scouts, served on the Postville City Council, was a past member of Brotherly Love Lodge #204 A.F. & A.M., Past Patron of Chapter #238 Order of the Eastern Star, Past President of the Scottish Rite Club in Decorah, received the KCCH degree in Scottish Rite, was a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory, the Consistory degree team, and El Kahir Shrine, all of Cedar Rapids, was a member of the American Legion and the Postville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served on the board and was a past president of the Northeast Iowa Shrine Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of Mason City, one daughter, Mrs. Jay (Janelle) Driscoll, Cedar Rapids, one son, Marc of Plymouth, 3 grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. Alice Parry, Preston, MN, Mrs. Kay Gaffney, Killeen, TX and Mrs. Mary Mayo, Long Beach, CA, one brother, George Watts, Kimberly, MO, one niece, Mrs. Jack (Jeannine) Easton, Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ronald, Nov. 1988, one brother and one sister.
