Frank J. Ryan, 99, of Lansing, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997 at Thorton Manor Care Center in Lansing.
He was born Nov. 21, 1897 to Jeremiah and Johanna (Bresnahan) Ryan in Union Prairie Township in Allamakee County. He attended school at Union Prairie #6.
May 14, 1924 Frank married Marie Murphy May in Lycurgus. They raised four children and farmed for a short time near West Ridge. They moved to Lansing and in 1930 he began work in the Lansing Garage. He then worked for the City of Lansing as a policeman and read the meters for the water department. His last employment was with the Lansing Button Factory. He retired when he was in his seventies.
He is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Burke of Waukon, Donna Erickson of Arlington, Texas, and Dorothy Ryan of Berwyn, Ill.; a son Merel Ryan of Chicago; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Veronica Gallagher.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, John and Edward; and two sisters, Marie O'Neill and Catherine Ryder.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 1 at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Herbert Tegeler officiating. Interment followed in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Vince Mullarkey, Dick Ronan, Jim Ronan, Ray Ryan, Dan Murphy and Jim Mettille.
