Funeral services for Mrs. Vernon Miller were held Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend James Allison officiated. Casket bearers were David Miller, Ronald Miller, Ronald Moose, Wesley Goeke, Ronald Goeke, Allen Goeke, Rodney Luhmann. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Lorna Leona (Goeke) Miller, the daughter of George Alfred and Gertrude Anna (Shindoll) Goeke, was born November 4, 1925, in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, near Waukon, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday morning, June 5, 2002, at her home on Woodchuck Ridge in Allamakee County, north of Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 76 years, seven months, and one day.

She was baptized January 10, 1926, in the Zion Reformed Church at Waukon by the Reverend Karl Ernst, and confirmed there on May 12, 1940, by the Reverend Frank E. Stucki. She was received into St. Paul Lutheran Church on March 28, 1948. Lorna attended the local rural schools and graduated from the Waukon High School in 1944. She was employed by the Waukon Telephone Company.

On May 23, 1945 Lorna was married to Vernon Carl Miller at Waukon. To this marriage four children were born. The family lived on various farms in the area and finally moved to their present dairy farm on Woodchuck Ridge, north of Postville.

Lorna enjoyed her family and working in her vegetable and flower garden. She was an avid reader, a great cook and seamstress.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth Dotseth.

Surviving is her husband, Vernon, two sons, Ronald (Pethai) Miller of Sierra Vista, AZ, and David (Jan) Miller of Postville; two daughters, Carol (Rod) Luhmann of Coon Rapids, MN, and Lisa (Rod) Moose of Waukon, nine grandchildren, Mitchel and Riley Moose, Ross and Allison Luhmann, Darrell and Brian Miller, Josie Smith, Stephanie Shupe, and Melissa Miller; four great grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Shupe, Jessica and Raleigh Fauquier; three brothers: Ronald (Bettie) Goeke of Guttenberg, Allen (Ella Mae) Goeke, and Wesley (Carol) Goeke, all of Waukon, and one sister, Karen DeLatte of Picayune, Mississippi.

Lorna was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of the ELCA. Her Christian faith was very important to her.
