Roger W. Beisker, 70, of Waukon, died Thurs., March 15, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City, following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services were held Sun., March 18 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. The Rev. David E. Schafer officiated. Burial of ashes with military rites was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Roger Wesley Beisker was born Nov. 4, 1930, near Rossville, the son of George William and Alice Alzina (Ewing) Beisker. He attended Jefferson #3 rural school. Following that, he worked on the family and neighborhood farms and also drove truck for Donald Kellison. From December of 1951 until December, 1953, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, seeing most of his duty in California.
In June of 1955, he married Laurayne Thias at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following the service, he farmed for a while before starting work for Wright Tree Service, where he remained for many years. The past year he had lived at veterans centers in Tomah, WI, Iowa City, and Knoxville.
Roger was a member of American Legion Post #62 of Waukon. He was an avid woodsman and enjoyed hunting mushrooms. He was also a history buff and storyteller and liked telling about his military experiences.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jese Lewey; two sisters, Georgia Riehm and Virginia Kellison; and four brothers, Jack, George, Dean, and Marvin Beisker.
Survivors include four daughters, Julie (Gene) Hitchcock and Cindy (Steve) Topel, both of Waukon, Jacky (Lee) Bresnahan, Waterville, and Lorie (Steve) Felton of Dubuque; two sons, Danny (Patty) Beisker of Leola, PA, and Wesley Beisker of Waukon; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Amanda (George) Kelbl of Dennison; and two brothers, David (Deloris) Beisker of Monona and Larry (Ruth) Beisker of Cedar Rapids.
Honorary casketbearers were Ernie, Greg, Kendal, Mark, and Jeff Beisker, Lyle Dee, and Dale Kellison.
Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.
