Death Of Lifelong Resident Of Allamakee Co.
The death Sunday of Wm. Zoll of Hanover township, brought the deepest sorrow to those who had valued his friendship for many years.
He was born at Lansing, Nov. 23, 1856, and when four years of age his parents moved to the farm in Hanover which had since been his home and where his demise occurred. After attaining young manhood he was joined in marriage with Miss Bridget Collins, the ceremony taking place at the Lycurgus Catholic Church on April 19, 1882. Rev Slattery officiated at the nuptial mass. Eleven children were born to this union, three of whom preceded their father in death. The surviving ones are Mrs P. L. Welch, Joseph and William Zoll, French Creek; Mrs Larry Byrnes, Hanover; Mrs. J. C. Cunningham, Hurd, N. D.; Francis Zoll, Union Prairie, and Emmet and Vic of Waukon, who with their mother morn the death of a dear husband and father. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Francis Hess, Lansing, and a Sister Northburga of St. Louis, a brother Alex of Chicago, 36 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Zoll had the honor on April 19, 1932, of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Deceased was an honest, industrious man who was held in the highest respect by all. He was a member of the Catholic Church and devoutly lived up to its teachings.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning at the Hanover church, the requiem mass being celebrated by Rev. P. Reynolds, after which he was laid to rest in the family lot in the cemetery nearby.
