The Lansing Mirror......... Friday, September 30, 1881 (Found on microfilm at the Iowa State Historical Society, Iowa City and retyped from notes)

“DIED---- On Tuesday morning, at the house of his son Fred at Thompson’s corners in this county, Mr. John Martin, aged 86 years.

The funeral occurred on Thursday and was largely attended. The deceased was an old resident of this county and an esteemed and respected citizen.

Mr. Herman Martin, formerly of Lansing, now residing in New Albin and Messers Julius and Frank Martin, formerly residents of our city and now of Ackley, Iowa are sons of the deceased.”
