Justin James Hubert, 17, of New Albin, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in a fatal car accident on Hwy. 26, in Allamakee County. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at the New Albin Elementary gymnasium with the Rev. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the New Albin Community Center with a Scripture service at 8 p.m. He is survived by his mother, Valeri (Dale) Mauss of New Albin; his father, Jimmie (Janel) Hubert of Bangor, Wis.; three sisters, Ayla Hubert, Jennifer Mauss, Brittany Wells; four brothers, D.J. Mauss, Collin Wells, Cameron Wells, Jim Mauss; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Justin enjoyed hanging with his friends, fishing, hunting, skateboarding, snowboarding and working at Great River Road House. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

THURSDAY COLLISION CLAIMS LIFE OF NEW ALBIN TEENAGER, INJURES MAN FROM LANSING

A head-on collision Thursday afternoon, Oct. 4, resulted in the death of 17-year-old Justin James Hubert of New Albin, and serious injury to 52-year-old Gary Edward Larson of Lansing. According to the report, the accident occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. that afternoon.

Hubert, a Kee High School senior, was reportedly traveling northbound along Hwy. 26, approximately five miles north of Lansing, when his vehicle crossed the center line and was struck head-on by Larson's southbound vehicle. The accident remains under investigation.

Larson was transported by Life Flight to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. He underwent surgery Monday evening; his status has not yet been released.

The Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene by the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department and Lansing and New Albin police, fire, and ambulance services.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 8, at the New Albin Elementary School gymnasium, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery in New Albin.

He was born Dec. 22, 1983, in La Crosse, WI, and was a senior at Kee High School in Lansing.

Casketbearers were Evan Knobloch, Travis Hubert, Jeff Howe, Dean Howe, Chad Hubert, Mitch Hubert and Nick Howe.

Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
