Wayne LeVern Donaldson
Wayne Donaldson, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 3, at 2 p.m., at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, with the Rev. Kim Smith, pastor of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church officiating.
Joann Martins was the organist. Casket bearers were David Sivesind, Dennis Sivesind, Jeff Brauer, Larry Donaldson, Wayne Schroeder and Robert Reierson.
Burial was at Grand View Cemetery in Fayette. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville handled arrangements.
Wayne LeVern Donaldson, son of Jim and Goldia (Chittenden) Donaldson, was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Fayette. He attend the Fayette School and graduated in 1936 as senior class president.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1940-45. He was an airplane mechanic and spent part of his active duty in Kun Ming, China.
He was married to Jennie Adele Frey Nov. 28, 1940, in Guttenberg. From 1942-44 they lived in Sumter, S.C., at Shawfield Air Base until Wayne's departure overseas.
Upon his return in 1945, they lived in Oelwein. They then moved to Aberdeen, S.D., for a short time and managed a gas station.
In 1948 they moved to Lansing, where Wayne worked as a mechanic at Lenz and Underwood for 15 years. In 1963 they moved to Postville, where he worked for Falb Motors until his retirement in 1984.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie; a daughter, Jane and Gene Sivesind of Decorah; four grandchildren, David (Kristi) Sivesind of Racine, Minn., Dennis Sivesind of Spring Valley, Minn., Janene (Jeff) Brauer of Rochester, Minn., and Jenny (Chad) Nelson of Akron, Ind.; five great-grandchildren, Jordon Kimball, Ryan and Kyle Sivesind, Austin and Wyatt Nelson; and a brother, Gerald Donaldson of San Diego, Calif.
Wayne Donaldson was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James; and a grandson, Darryl Sivesind.
