Her relatives and many friends were saddened over the weekend to learn of the death of Mrs. Genevieve Thornton Anderson Julson on Saturday, March 24, in Texas where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. William B. Walter.
Mrs. Julson was born in Lansing, December 5, 1888 as the eldest of four children of Dr. & Mrs. John H. Thornton. She attended local schools and was graduated from Lansing High School in 1907 and from Clarke College in Dubuque in 1911.
After teaching classical & modern language at various high schools in Iowa, she did graduate work at the University of Iowa and then returned to teaching. On her mother's death in 1917, she returned to Lansing where she kept house for her father and family. In 1922, she married Oscar Anderson of Lansing, and for the next several years lived in Detroit, Mich. where her children Mary Jo and James were born.Following the death of her husband in 1928, she returned to Lansing until 1929 when she taught school in Sioux City, IA. In 1930, she returned to Michigan and taught school there. and later in Idaho until 1932, when she returned to Lansing. In 1933, she married Edward Julson, and for many years thereafter was active in the community here, both as a substitute teacher in the local schools and working with Mr. Julson in his jewelry business on Main Street. After Mr. Julson's death in 1960, she joined her daughter in Euless, between Dallas and Fort Worth.
Mrs. Julson was a woman of broad interests. From her early years as a student until the time of her death, she maintained an informed and lively interest in her family, church and in the political, social and cultural life around her, whether in familiar surroundings in Lansing or new homes elsewhere. St. Thoma More has been described as a "Man for All Seasons". Mrs. Julson was of similar type in the scope of her interests and enduring qualities.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Walter of Euless, Texas, her son, James Anderson, of Seattle, Wash., her brother, Dr. John B. Thornton of Lansing and her sister, Mrs. Merle B. (Rita) Curtis of Omaha. Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, Norbert, of Seattle, and a half sister, Mrs. Martin B. (Julia) Farnan, of Dubuque.
After local services in Euless on Monday, her body arrived in Lansing on Tuesday. Friends will be welcome at the Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church at 10 A.M. on Thursday, March 29, with interment in Gethsemane Cemetery.
