The sudden death of Louise C. Manning, 74, which occurred at her farm home in Lafayette township southeast of Lansing last Wednesday morning brought grief to her family, relatives and friends as well as a great shock to all of her acquaintances.
She was born June 4, 1892 at Harpers Ferry, a daughter of Theodore and Emma Fernette Cota, one of a large family. Following her education she was united in marriage to Patrick Manning at Paint Rock Church in 1915. They lived for 52 years on the same farm in Lafayette and were the parents of eight children, seven of whom mourn the loss of an indulgent mother. Her husband preceded her in death in 1962 and one son Sgt. George was killed in action in Germany in World War II. Surviving their mother are Harold, John, Joe, Leo and James Manning and sister, Eleanor (Mrs. Leo Mullarkey ) of Lansing and vicinity; Mary, Mrs. George Hammell Jr. and Eleanor, (Mrs. Earl Hammell) of the New Albin Vicinity.

("submitters note": This part of obit is a little confusing, to clarify, Marcella is Mrs. Leo Mullarkey, not Eleanor; Marcella, Mary & Eleanor are Patrick & Louise's daughters)

Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Conway, Lansing; Mrs. Emmett Cahalan, Waukon; Mrs. Gerald Pugsley of Dubuque along with four brothers, Dennis of Waukon; George of Dubuque; Martin and William Cota of Harpers Ferry; 46 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Manning was a lifelong Catholic, a member of the Rosary Society of her parish, devoted to her home and family who will be sadly missed by those who knew her. A. Solemn Requiem Mass was offered at I.C. Church, Wexford, Saturday morning with Father Francis Perry, celebrant and Rev. Donald and Cletus Hawes, deacon and sub-deacon with burial in the family lot in the adjoining cemetery. Grandsons Tim and Vince Manning were Mass servers, Other gradsons (sic), Pat, George, Michael and Kenneth Manning, Patrick, Joseph, Edward and Gerald Hammell served as gasket bearers.
