Funeral services for Hertha Erbe, 86, were held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1984 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Hertha Natalia Erbe, daughter of Reverend John and Wihelmina (Borgelt) Gass was born Aug. 23, 1898 at Postville. She passed away Oct. 27, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville.

She was baptized by her father, March 31, 1912. She was confirmed by the Reverend Kuehne at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hertha graduated from Postville High School in 1915 and was employed at the Postville Hospital.

She graduated from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing at St. Louis, Missouri in 1921 and spent the first few years as a nurse in the St. Louis area. She returned to Postville and was employed at the hospital here for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

October 2, 1931 she was married to Arthur Erbe at Rockford, Illinois. To this union a daughter was born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters in infancy, Emma, Rosa, Estella, and Eleanora and a sister Flora and six brothers, Edwin, Walter, Arthur, Herbert, Roland, and Harold.

Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Ann, Waukon, and several nephews and nieces.
