Monica R. Schulte, 85, of Caledonia, MN died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Caledonia Care and Rehab Center where she had been a resident for the past month. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Dorchester. McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family.
Monica was born October 28, 1924 at Waukon to Theodore and Lillian (Waters) Henry. She graduated from Waukon High School with the Class of 1943 and became a rural school teacher.
May 27, 1947, she married Lawrence J. Schulte at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lycurgus and they farmed in the Hanover area for a short time before moving to their farm near Dorchester. Monica retired to Eitzen, MN in 1979 and moved to Loretto Heritage Apartments in Caledonia, where she spent the past eight years. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and playing cards with her friends at the Eitzen and Caledonia Senior Citizen centers. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dorchester for the past 63 years.
Eight children survive her, Dean (Maria) Schulte of Davenport, Dennis, Randy, Lyle (Julie) Schulte and Carmel Schulte of Waukon, Anita Clauson and Miles (Susan) Schulte of Spring Grove, MN, and Donna (Russell) Oakes of Highlandville; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her sisters, Donna Jeffrey of Camarillo, CA, Lillian (William) Zeh of Henderson, NV, and Helen (Allen) Kubitz of Sparks, NV; and a brother Clarence (Nada) Henry of Camanche.
Her husband, Lawrence J. Schulte, preceded her in death (1961), as well as her daughter Laura (1978) and sons Terry (1981) and Jeffrey Schulte (1989), one grandson, Gus Oakes (1988), and her brothers, Lawrence and Emmet Henry, her sister, Mary Henry, and her special friend, Donald E. Hanson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Franciscan Skemp Hospice in Caledonia, MN, Eitzen Senior Citizens, or the Hermits of St. Mary of Carmel, RR 1, Box 143, Houston, MN 55943.
