According to a message Wednesday from the war department to his mother, Mrs. Agnes Ahearn, Cpl. Gerald Ahearn, 28, serving with a tank division, has been missing in action in Holland since Oct. 5th. Corp. Ahearn was born in Hanover township near Waukon, and was employed in the east when he enlisted in the army at Washington, D.C. He took part in the invasion of France on D-Day. The young man is a son of the late Joe Ahearn of Hanover township. His mother makes her home with her son Norbert of Waukon, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Martin lives in Jefferson township. It is hoped that Mrs. Ahearn may hear that her son is found and well.

Waukon - Mrs. Agnes A'Hearn has been notified that the body of her son, Sgt. Gerald A'Hearn, will be buried in the national cemetery at Louisville, Ky., on Dec. 6. Sgt. A'Hearn, who was serving with an army tank division, was killed in action in Holland in February*, 1945.

Corp. Gerald J. A'Hearn, reported as missing in action in Holland on Oct. 5, was killed in action on that day, according to a war department message to his mother, Mrs. Agnes A'Hearn.

Corp. A'Hearn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe A'Hearn, was born Dec. 20, 1914, in Hanover township, near Waukon, and enlisted while employed in Washington, D.C., in February, 1942, and went overseas last July. Assigned to an anti-tank division, he saw action in France and Italy, and in both countries met his brother, John, also in an anti-tank division, several times. Another brother, Clement, is serving with the navy in the south Pacific.

Besides his mother and these two brothers, he is survived by another brother, Norbert A'Hearn, Waukon, and four sisters, Mrs. Henry Martin, Waukon; Mrs. Grace Williams, Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Dave Deeny and Mrs. Helen O'Hagen, both of near Los Angeles, Calif. His father died in October, 1926.

Memorial services will be held at St. Patrick's church here at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Ernest McDonald, pastor, celebrating the requiem mass. The Ralph D. Waters post of the American legion and other patriotic groups will attend in a body.
