John J. Elliott Passes On; Funeral Held Monday
Funeral services were held in St. Bridget's Catholic church in this city Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock for John J. Elliott, 54, who passed away Saturday morning at his home in this city. He had been a resident here since 1938. The Rev. F. J. Vallaster conducted the services and interment was in the Cherry Mound cemetery east of Rossville.
Pallbearers were Edward Kozelka, Ed Nelson, Charles Jones, Earl Abernethy, A. W. Bush and J. E. Horgan.
Mr. Elliott was born December 18, 1891, at Cherry Mound, this county, as the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Elliott. He was educated in the rural schools near his home and later attended Campion Academy at Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Wisconsin Business College at LaCrosse, Wis.
He was married to Mabel Snitker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Snitker of Waukon, December 30, 1919, in St Pious church at Cherry Mound.
In 1938 the family came to Postville to make their home and for the past six years Mr. Elliott has been with Hall Roberts' Son seed house as an employee. He was taken ill about two months ago.
In addition to his wife and son, Richard, aged nine, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Elliott, of Los Angeles, Calif., four brothers, Gregory of Carpenteria, Calif., Julian of Manchester, Donald of Chicago, Ill., and Cyril V. of Waukon. A sister, Rose, preceded him in death. Also surviving are eleven nieces and twelve nephews.
