Dorothy A. Ludeking, 96, of Waukon, died Thurs., May 3, 2001, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Mon., May 7, at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon under the direction of Rev. Larry Olson. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Dorothy Anna (Winkie) Ludeking was born Oct. 5, 1904, on the Ludlow Township farm of her parents, William and Lydia (Meier) Winkie. She was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church and attended Ludlow #2 rural school and Waukon High School.
On Oct. 18, 1928, she married Alfred Willard Ludeking. Dorothy worked at the Bakkum Grocery Store for several years and then for Quandahl's Food Ranch as a store clerk, retiring in 1969.
Dorothy was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Ladies. She enjoyed being with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, gardening, cooking, quilting, and needlework.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; a son-in-law, Fred Larson; four brothers, Elmer, George, Walter, and Emmet Winkie; a sister, Clara Kugel; and an infant sister. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jo (John) Beghtel of Saratosa, FL, and LaVonne Larson of Fernandina Beach, FL; a son, Alfred Bervene (Shirley) Ludeking of Decorah; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Jim, Darvin, Virgil, Ken, and Richard Winke, Larry Snitker, and Neil Becker.
Martin Funeral home of Waukon assisted the family.
