Emma Marie Lammert, daughter of Henry and Sophia (Schroeder) Kahle was born April 2, 1903 in Winneshiek County, near Postville. She died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1992 in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon. She was 89.
She was baptized May 12, 1903 by the Rev. P. E. Bockelmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and confirmed there on Sept. 3, 1916 by the Rev. E. Schmidt. Emma attended the rural school near her home.
On Feb. 9, 1926 she was married to Walter Carl Lammert at Postville by the Rev. E. T. Finck. They had one son, Duane. They farmed for several years and then moved to their present home in Postville in 1946. Emma had been employed as a telephone operator by the Postville Farmers Telephone Company.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, who died Nov. 6, 1976, and a brother, Alvin.
Surviving are a son, Duane and his wife, Mary, of Metairie, La.; three grandchildren, Karen (Mike) Morgan, Scott Lammert and Kathy Lammert; and a sister, Mabel Mews of Clinton, Minn.
Emma was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of the ELCA.
Funeral services for Mrs. Walter Lammert were held Saturday, Oct. 3, 1992 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Charles W. Miller and R. Michael Brown officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Eugene Severn, Milton Schierholz, Stanley Schroeder, Carlton Fuelling, Paul Welzel and Delbert Suckow.
